Three Best Fast Food Places…If You Must

Sometimes our lives are so fast that, yes, we must EAT FAST FOOD! Yeah, that’s the way it is. So, having had this happen to me, let me enlighten you on the best places to go when you’re starving and on the run.

I live in the southern midwest and we luv our tex-mex, so how about Taco Bell?  They have a “fresco menu,” a  lighter menu.  But watch out for fat!  The best choice is going to be the Shredded Soft  Chicken Taco.  You can have two!  One is 140 calories, 3.5 grams of fat and 10 grams of protein.  You could go for the same in steak with 150 calories and 4 grams of fat plus more protein at 12 grams.  Your drink should be water, of course!  All the other items in the fresco menu had too much fat to be considered.

Next let’s look at Mickey D’s.  They’re everywhere, right?  An “Egg White Delight” is 250 calories, 5 grams of fat and 18 grams of protein.  Have coffee, a sugar-free flavored coffee, or water.  I just noticed the “Big Breakfast” with pancakes is 1130 calories and 61 grams of fat! Gross.

Now if you need lunch or dinner at McDonald’s you can eat a SALAD!! Yay, salads! You can have a Southwest Salad with grilled chicken for 330 calories, 11 grams of fat and 33 grams of protein.  Don’t eat chips or croutons and ask for diet dressing.

McDonald’s also has a grilled chicken sandwich that’s not bad.  The “Artisan Grilled Chicken Sandwich” is 360 calories, 11 grams of fat and 33 grams of protein.  It’s not much for all those calories but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Best Bet? Subway! You have a choice of a few different  6″ sandwiches at Subway for around 300 calories if you leave off the cheese and use mustard.  Go for turkey breast at 280 calories and 18 grams of protein. Notice all the fat and calorie info around the restaurant. Read the signs, learn what’s good for you!

The best item they have is their salad!  Order only spinach, no cheese, turkey or chicken breast, and all the veggies you want.  I go with oven-roasted chicken on spinach with fat-free Italian dressing and lots of good veggies.  It’s about 140 calories, 2.5 grams of fat and 19 grams of protein.  You cannot beat this!

Pizza Restaurants? No, you can’t eat pizza.  Hamburgers, no, unless they have bison, then there’s the bun and you can’t have cheese and why even be around fries? Chinese? Doubt it, too much stir fry. And what oil do they use, anyway?

I prefer to stay away from restaurants.  They’re just not healthy places and have no real concept of how many calories a mature female can handle.  Even health food places have too much fat because they’re all, “It’s the good kind,” but the good kind is heavy on calories.

So if you MUST eat out…what’s your best choice? And that’s a “staying on your diet” question.
